Calanthe is an extensive family of orchids that require different locations. The species for the garden require a sheltered spot in the (semi) shade with soil that contains a lot of humus and does not dry out. Calanthe is therefore very suitable for use in a woodland garden, where the plant gets a layer of leaves in autumn. Fine, because the Calanthe is not completely hardy in our climate. If you do not have a good spot outside, plant Calanthe in a large pot that you put inside during the winter. Provide good potting soil. It can sometimes take a year for Calanthe to flower.
