The Abutilon is originally from South America (Chile, Uruguay and Brazil) and belongs to Malvaceae family, also called large mallow family.
The Abutilon is popular because of its striking bell-shaped flowers and available in many beautiful fresh colors. There is even one in the colors of the Belgian flag "the Abutilon Big Bell" with black, red and yellow.
The care of the Abutilon is fairly simple. Warm but not in the full sun and preferably a bit sheltered from the wind. The Abutilon prefers not to be in the open ground, the risk of pests is greater.
It is therefore a plant for every terrace or in a conservatory.
If you also remove the faded flowers, the plant can again make plenty of new flowers and you can enjoy a beautiful flowering plant on the terrace or in the greenhouse all spring, spring and autumn.
You can keep the Abutilon in a nice round and compact shape by cutting back the young shoots just a few times without cutting the old wood.
